How to Make Basic, Easy Sugar Cookies
Ingredients:
- 2 3/4 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
- 1 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla
*yields about 32 cookies
Instructions:
- Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit.
- In a bowl, add in flour, baking powder, baking soda. Mix and set aside for now.
- In a separate bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until creamy. Add in the egg, beat in well. Then add in the vanilla.
- Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
- Then place the dough into a Ziploc bag and leave in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- Remove dough from zip-lock bag and roll out the dough to about a 1/4 inch thickness.
- Use a cookie cutter or whatever you have on hand, cut the dough into shapes. Re-roll remaining dough and continue cutting until all the dough is used. (We decided to just make circular shapes, so we just used the rim of a glass cup for even circle shaped cookies.)
- Place the cookies on a baking sheet. No need to spray oil onto the pan. If you would like you can place cookies on parchment paper, but you don't have to.
- Freeze in the fridge for 10-15 minutes more. This helps it keep it's shape and not puff so much.
- Bake for about 8 minutes on 350 degress farenheit.
- Let it cool for a few minutes, then you can decorate them however you like. (We left some plain, added only sugar on top of others before baking, and on others, we frosted and sprinkled them)
- Enjoy!
