How to Make Bajiya | Ramadan Food
Ingredients:
- 1 lb black eyed peas
- 2 chili peppers
- 4 garlic cloves
- 1/4 of an onion
- 2 tsp salt
Instructions:
- In a food processor, add 1 lb of black eyed peas and coarsely chop them in pulse mode for a few seconds
- Then place them into a bowl and sift around to remove the extra "dirt" and sandy bits
- Then cover the bowl in water and allow to sit and soak for 4 to 5 hours
- 4 to 5 hours later... dump the water and skin floating in the water as well
- Add new water to the black eyed peas and rub the peas with your hands to remove the skin, continue to repeat the process until clean and none to very little skin left on them
- Once rinsed out completely and no water is left in the bowl with the black eyed peas, add into it 2 chili peppers, 4 garlic cloves, and 1/4 of an onion to it and blend (We used a hand-held blender, any blender is fine to use)
- Then add in 2 tsp of salt and mix well and thoroughly with you hands
- To get the bajiya shape, use your hands to from or use a spoon
- On medium heat, fry the bajiyas until all sides are golden brown
- Before transferring the bajiyas onto a paper toweled plate, drain out as much oil as you can
- Enjoy!
