Chapati: Soft, Flaky, and Layered | Easy Recipe
Ingredients:
- 5 cups flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp oil (any - we used canola oil)
- water
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, add 5 cups of flour, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 tsp salt, and 3 tbsp oil and give it a quick mix
- Then add in water, little by little (we used just under 2 cups of water) and allow mixer to continue mixing until a dough like consistency forms
- When the dough for, oil the while dough, cover and set aside for 30 minutes
- Form dough into a long piece and cut into 10 smaller pieces
- Shape each of those pieces into a circular shape
- Cover and set aside for 10 minutes
- One at a time, roll out each piece into a medium round shape and brush some oil on it
- Option 1: Roll dough from top to bottom into a rope like shape, bang to lengthen, form the "rope" into a circular shape, cover, and set aside for 10 minutes OR
- Option 2: fold all four side of the dough towards the middle to create a square shape, cover, and set aside for 10 minutes
- Flour your working area and work on one dough piece at a time, roll out into medium round or rectangular shape, and cover with cloth until ready to cook
- Cook each side for a few minutes on medium heat (optional: add a dab of oil on each side as you flip)
- Enjoy warm!
